BENNINGTON POTTERY IS MADE WITH SHEFFIELD POTTERY CLAY
Bennington Pottery is made from our own clay recipe, and fired at a
very high temperature for remarkable resistance to chipping and
cracking. Our earliest customers have told us that Dinnerware place settings made
in the 1950's are still in service, two generations later. You can expect
the same. That makes all of our Pottery Collections a tremendous long-term value,
especially considering the design versatility.
All the work is done by hand, and the on-site factory makes about 500
pottery dishes and other stoneware dinnerware, bake ware, and serving
shapes a day, well, on a good day. Their "hands-on" approach to the
pottery-making process is unique in today's manufacturing environment. The potters who work in the factory have over 20 years of experience at their craft, and pride themselves
on producing stoneware which involves a level of hand-craftsmanship that few other potteries in the world
have an interest in doing any longer.
The potters have remained true to the vision of founder David Gil, who passed away in early 2002, at age 79. As cookie-cutter dinnerware and bake ware continue to
saturate the marketplace, and retails continue to diversify to the point that they all look like
each other, the potters are increasingly seeing that people are looking for something original, something
with substance. Each piece of Bennington pottery is unique, the quality is superb, no two pieces are exactly
alike, which is part of the secret to Bennington's success. From casual and everyday dinnerware, Bennington offers something for everyone.
Bennington Potters "Traditionals" Collection
The "Traditionals Collection" are Bennington's time-honored spatter ware glazes. The "Traditionals Collection" consists of two glazes,
a tone-on-tone spattering design that is most recognized as the illustrious "Bennington Look." We offer the "Traditionals Collection," pottery
glazes; Blue Agate and Green Agate.
Blue Agate Glaze:
Bennington's signature glaze and most popular with our customers. A classic country blue and cream,
this color is one that works well with a wide variety of kitchen, dining room, and country home
decors.
Green Agate Glaze: This rich green and black combination translates the time-honored tartan, watch plaid colors, into a cozy,
warm, country look. Many of you may recognize this glaze previously, as it was formerly called Black on Green. If you love the saturated greens of summer gardens and winter holidays, this
is the glaze choice for you.
