Catherwood Pottery
Catherwood Pottery pieces are meticulously made by Nancy Catherwood-Magnusson, at her private studio in the charming hills of Holland, Massachusetts. Nancy fires all of her pottery pieces in a traditional Japanese Naborigama wood kiln. The design elements for this very special, Asian influenced kiln, are all based on the center of the kiln, and the support system it entails. The Naborigama kiln features a self-supporting arch, called a Cantenary. Each extensive wood kiln firing lasts a total of about 20 hours. The distinguishing markings on each piece of pottery are distinctively made by the flames inside of the Naborigama kiln, and are completely unambiguous to the Naborigama. This is why this kiln is so extraordinary. Each marking, on each individual piece of pottery, is different, and therefore results in
an exclusive, one-of-a-kind, creation.
